Family

Hello Chaput family,
I would like to post about going to the movies with Ann and Andrew last Friday, eating at Kate and Matts last week, checking out Jen and Nic's new house, or sunday lunch at Mom and Dad's, but I can't. I often think about what Shannon and I would be doing if we were living in Indiana. I don't like not seeing you every week, not seeing Lilly grow up, not sharing Sunday mornings with you and much more. I just wanted to say, I love my family, and miss you very much.

" HI! HOW ARE YOU-I AM FINE!"
quote from the MOM

Shannon is good to me, shes so cute.

Since I'm not at home with you guys I have to make friends of my own.

December 10th 2006

SFC Mac, my platoon Sgt, said he had found a video on the internet of us getting ambushed on route Chicken. I didn't believe him at first, but sure enough, there it was. The same guys who attacked us were filming it. This happened on our way back from FOB Mizon to FOB Lagman. The night before, a fuel truck, we were escorting from Lagman to Mizon was hit with a RPG and destroyed. So on our way back we thought something might happen and it did. In this attack Spc Bloom was hit by an IED (improvised explosive device) in the Huskey. Sgt. Halfmann and Sgt. Pierse were both shot. 6 out of our 10 vehicles were either disabled or destroyed. We were lucky not to have lost anyone, but the same wasn't so for the Taliban; we caused 13 casualties. We also captured one of the leaders from the Mizon province. We were stuck in the river bed for two days waiting for support to help us get our vehicles back home. The video only shows the last parts of the attack, so you miss the intense first half, but its still interesting to watch. Toward the end you'll see our CAS (close air support) A-10 flying over head, once he showed up the enemy disappeared. You'll also see the MEDEVAC (medical evacuation) black hawk and chinook come to get Sgt. Halfmann and Sgt. Pierse back to Lagman. This is the morning of the attack. Here's our five ton that later was blown up.
Here's the RG-31. You can see were an RPG hit above the front tire, good thing it didn't go off.
You can see the Huskey and the 5-ton in the background
This is my HUMMVEE. The rear windows mine, the front one was my squad leaders, SSG Hedgepath
This was also my HUMMVEE. This was Sgt.Resslers weapons mount, you can see were a round hit the post. This post is right in front of the gunner.

Here are the videos. If you want to watch.

level 2

Well, all SAPPER school slots for the next month have been denied. Which means all the guys in train up now are going to take the slots for the train up for the group I was suppose to be with. Sooo, I think its safe to say, I will not be going to SAPPER School any time soon. But its not all bad. My company will be sending me to the next level two combative course. Which means I'm gonna get my butt kicked every day of the week for two weeks. I'm looking forward to it.

Since I have become a level 1 instructor the company has implemented combative training once a week, so I get to teach my guys everything I have been taught.
